The North coast of Spain from the Basque Country to Galicia is an amazing and characteristic coast, surrounded by Cantabrian Sea, which was considered for a long time “mare Tenebrarum”, this abrupt and steep coast offers amazing cliffs and flysches that tell the history of the formation of the Bay of Biscay, a coastline where mountains meet the sea, but it also has peaceful bays and inlets as well as paradisiacal beaches. The Cantabrian Sea has forged the character of the population. All this combined with the unpredictable weather, it can be sunny and then suddenly get cloudy, misty or raining and vice versa. All the weather conditions show off the beauty of this coastline in different but beautiful moods. There is no doubt that the northern coast of Spain is one of the most beautiful and unknown coasts in Spain. Spain is widely known for its sunny south and east coast, but the north has a lot of superb photograpic locations and it is probably also one of the most beautiful coastlines not only in Spain but in Europe, it is not by mere coincidence that some locations of the famous show Game of Thrones have been filmed there.
Besides being a great place for photography, in northern Spain the food is absolutely delicious, food is part of the culture, the hub of Spanish gastronomy and high cuisine, trying to describe it is a waste of time, so we will go to check it out ourselves by testing some different delicious meals (when not taking photos of course 😉
Day 1, May 10
You will arrive at Bilbao’s airport where a FlyBus will pick you up to transfer you to the hotel so that you can check in. We will meet in the lobby at 5:00 pm to get to know each other, form the groups and receive the initial instructions.
Our first spot for shooting the sunset will be San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, dramatic islet located on the rugged coast of Biscay in the Basque Country of northern Spain. It gained global fame after being featured as “Dragonstone” in the popular TV series Game of Thrones.
We will have a delicious picnic dinner after sunset, and then we will go back to the hotel for a well-deserved rest.
Day 2, May 11
Today we will meet in the lobby at 5:00 am to go to Azkorri for our sunrise session.
Azkorri, also known as Gorrondatxe, is a secluded and scenic beach located on the coast of Getxo, in the Basque Country of northern Spain. Unlike more urbanized beaches, Azkorri retains a wild and natural character, surrounded by striking green cliffs, dunes, and rocky formations that give it a distinctive, rugged beauty.
Once back in the hotel, we will meet again at 11:30, and will take a bus to Bilbao, to visit the most iconic places in the city and we will enjoy the famous and delicious pintxos for lunch in the old town of Bilbao. After lunch we will go back to our hotel, have a siesta to rest a bit and recharge our energy for the rest of the day.
In the evening, we will go to a picturesque coastal town Barrika. The iconic Barrika Beach, where Game of Thrones scenes were also filmed, features a remarkable geological landscape of flysch rock formations. These layered cliffs and ridges, carved by millions of years of erosion, create a surreal, almost lunar terrain that becomes especially magical during low tide.
As the day before, we will have a delicious picnic, after sunset, then we will go back to the hotel.

Day 4, May 14
Today’s sunrise will be one at Playa de Torimbia.
After the sunrise, we will go back to the hotel and recharge our batteries with a nice breakfast.

The Lagos de Covadonga are a pair of glacial lakes—Enol and Ercina—nestled high in the Picos de Europa National Park, in the Asturias region of northern Spain. Surrounded by soaring limestone peaks, green meadows, and dramatic cliffs, the lakes are a stunning example of alpine beauty and one of the most iconic natural landscapes in the country.
Day 5, May 15
Last night was quite long, so today we are missing the sunrise photo shoot.
After lunch we have to pack for checking out, as after sunset, we will have a nice picnic dinner and we will move to our next destination in Asturias, Gijon. For today’s sunset we’ll go to Playa de Buelna, a hidden gem of northern Spain. This tiny beach is shaped like a narrow channel and changes dramatically with the tides—from around 50 meters wide at high tide to almost 1,000 meters at low tide.
Day 6, May 16

Day 7, May 17
