We invite you to visit the Atlantic gem, Faroe islands. Beautiful archipelago of 18 islands spread in the ocean between Norway and Iceland, at 62 Noth. Imagine that there are 80,000 sheep living on islands, twice as much as local people! That’s truly a remote and calm place with unspoiled nature. Pyramid mountains stand out of long fjords, old churches’ rooftops are covered with grass carpets and fancy colorful houses face the open ocean in tiny Faroese villages. We have a schedule that allows us to visit the most beautiful spots of Faroe Islands which we had experienced ourselves already!
Day 1
Departure to the Faroe Islands from Reykjavík domestic airport or from Copenhagen by Atlantic Airways, arriving at Vagar airport after 1½ flight. Please mention that you may arrive any time of the day which is convenient for you, before 17:00. We have overnight at Vagar airport hotel.
Upon arrival check in to hotel. We meet you at the dinner at 18:00.
After the dinner we head to famous Gásadalur waterfall for suset. You must have seen photos from this location over the net! It’s Faroe islands iconic and most-known spot, truly worth visit the very first evening!
We have overnight at Vagar airport hotel.
Day 2
We plan the full-day trip to Mykines island. This is a small island with wonderful authentic village and lighthouse on the top of the cliff. A true gem of Faroe archipelago! We start around 9:00 in the morning from hotel right after the breakfast. The ferry will take us to the Mykines island. It is a beautiful cruise itself as we pass the ‘Tindhólmur’ islet shaped like a dragon!
We walk around the village, and then continue hiking to the 100-year old lighthouse. It is located on a separate island – Mykineshólmur – but it has a bridge to the main one. Usually the hike takes 1 hour for tourists, but we spend 3-4 hours on this hike! All because of puffins. Thousands and thousands puffins nest here in summer time! And you can approach as close as one meter to puffin at some spots. We spend a couple of hours just to take incredible photos of puffins. It is even enough to take 70-200 or 100-400 to take nice photos of puffins at Mykines! Besides puffins, we have opportunities to observe many species of land and sea birds at very close range – oystercatchers, snipes, gannets, fulmars, arctic terns, arctic skuas, guillemots, curlews, kittiwakes…
Approximately at 5 p.m. we load to the ferry and go back to Vagar island.
We have dinner and come back towards viewpoint to beautiful Tindhólmur islet at Bour village.
We have overnight at Vagar airport hotel.
Day 3
In summertime sunsets are late and sunrises are very early!
In the morning we hike to Leitisvatn. That’s the lake which falls into the ocean. It is located quite above the ocean level, and beautiful cliffs hold its basin. It’s worth getting up early and walk 1 hour to the majestic viewpoint. If the weather will not be nice to us at sunrise we hike here on the way to our second base after check out from hotel.
If the weather will be nicer this day, we may change it to daytrip to Mykines.
After check out we head towards our second base – Torshavn. Torshavn is the capital of Faroe, and a great base to explore north and east part of archipelago, the most suitable for sunrises and sunsets.
After the dinner we head out to Saksun village. It’s a great place for sunset: hobbiton-like village with crazy bushes of grass on rooftops, a majestic waterfalls and church overlooking a fjord.
Overnight at Torshavn.
Day 4
We meet sunrise at Funningur church, very close to Gjogv. So we return fast to the breakfast, have some rest and continue our daytrip to Kalsoy island. That’s a sausage-like island in shape is kingdom of sheep. Well, we saw hundreds sheep and just a few tourists last years… We take one way 15-km road to small northernmost village and hike to Kalsoy lighthouse from there. The hike takes us 1 hour and 100 m ascend by good path.
We meet sunset at Vidareidi church, this is our easternmost point for entire trip. The church is overlooking open west giving great opportunity for sunset.
Overnight at Torshavn.
Day 5
Sunrise at Tjornuvik village or hike to beautiful mountains close to Gjogv (1 hour hike with 150-200 m ascend). Our decision will depend on the weather and our group mood.
Daytrip to Torshavn city. This is the capital of Faroe. We do not stay here in civilization to avoid tourists and feel the calm atmosphere of Faroe at small villages.
Torshavn located at the Tinganes peninsula, home of the Faroese parliament since the 9 century!
Sunset at Saksun again as this place is one of my most favourites at Faroe.
Overnight at Torshavn.
Day 6
